Plaque Preventers Part II – Please meet Angela Chambers, one of our dedicated Dental Hygiene Therapists
Hi, I’m Angie and I’m one of the dedicated Dental Hygiene Therapists here at Synergy.
I’ve had a lovely time getting to know all of our loyal patients since joining the team in October 2010, so I thought it was about time you learned a little bit about me.
It’s been really exciting for me to see the impact I’ve been able to have on patients’ dental health since I arrived here. I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to be able to positively help someone with gum problems.
Just getting to know them, spend time with them and learn about their dental habits means I am able to advise them, adapt their daily regime and introduce them to new products and services.
To be honest, it’s one of the most important things that I do – and a great perk of the job! It’s very gratifying for me when patients are able to be able to see the real difference they can make to their dental health in a relatively short space of time.
But although gum care is a big part of my day-to-day work, I also complete fillings for both children and adults. I have to say I feel really passionately about all aspects of children’s dentistry, particularly since I’m a mum myself to William, who entered my life In February last year. He is definitely keeping me on my toes at the moment!
I love taking my time with a child at the practice and developing their trust and co-operation. You may not be aware, but I am currently planning to help educate and advise children, parents and guardians in Stoke-on-Trent on the importance of good diet and oral hygiene.
This will involve working closely with doctors’ surgeries, health visitors, schools and nurseries – and I’m REALLY looking forward to the challenge. I’ll keep you posted about that.
As far as my background is concerned, I have around 18 years of dental experience and since qualifying in 1998 have worked in a variety of private and NHS practices.
But it was in 2001 that I embarked on my most challenging journey so far as a dental nurse when I began work in the armed forces. This is where I discovered my love for dentistry because it gave me the opportunity to work with a great team whose only focus was the health of a patient’s mouth.
Then in 2007 I began a three year BSc in dental hygiene and dental therapy. I qualified in 2010 and later that year joined the wonderful Synergy family. They have been helping me to grow and develop professionally ever since.
However, dental health isn’t my only speciality. My other passion is facial aesthetics, which includes treatments such as anti-wrinkle, dermal fillers, peels, micro-needling and skin care. In fact, I’m proud to say that at the age of 37 I have returned to university to complete a Master’s degree in non-surgical facial aesthetics.
I’m really enjoying the course and loving all the new knowledge and experience I have gained. I have now completed the first year and am really looking forward to starting the second year in January.
Outside of work I love being a mum and spend most weekends visiting farms and parks and feeding ducks. I also enjoy eating out and being with my family and friends.
Truth be told, I am also a little addicted to buying handbags and jewellery. Or perhaps that should read I USED to enjoy this. I’m afraid those guilty pleasures have had to take second place since William came along.
Well, that’s about it for now. I hope you enjoyed finding out about me – and that you’ll watch out for my next blog soon.
