feeling nervous about your treatment?

Nervous Patients

At Synergy Dental CLinic, we know that many patients are nervous or phobic about visiting the dentist. This can often be caused by a bad experience in childhood, perhaps with a dentist who was not used to working with children. However, not every dentist is the same, at Synergy Dental Clinic we have lots of experience of working with children and nervous patients and offer a range of services to support you through your treatment.

Modern dental techniques and equipment have advanced greatly, with many treatments now being pain-free. We have found that many nervous patients benefit from coming into the practice for an informal chat with a member of our Client Care Team over a cup of coffee. You will have your chat in a relaxed environment, away from the dental surgery, and will also have the chance to meet the dentist. Only when you feel comfortable will you be taken for a familiarisation session of the surgery – without any treatment.

Hypnotherapy

Some nervous patients find hypnotherapy beneficial to help control their fear. Using the Dreamweaver dental-specific hypnotherapy CD at home before treatment or in the practice during treatment helps to increase relaxation and control anxiety.

Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT)

EFT is a gentle, effective way of rebalancing the body’s energy system to rid it of negative emotion. It has proven effective for nervous patients – please speak to a member of our team for more information.

Sedation options

For patients who need a little more help to relax, we offer treatment under sedation. We offer both oral and IV sedation, which is delivered in a controlled manner by our qualified clinician. You will not be asleep during treatment, so will still be able to cooperate with the dentist. However, you will be extremely relaxed and will remember little or nothing about treatment afterwards. You will need to bring someone with you who can drive you home after treatment under sedation, as the sedative drugs will stay in your system for a few hours after treatment.
